Ezekiel 34:31 (NIV)
“’You my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, are people, and I am your God, declares the Sovereign LORD.’”
The LORD says things differently than we do. A minister might say something like, “You, my congregation, are sheep to be pastured, shorn, or sent to market.” We tend to go from the actual to the figurative. We end up with what people remind us of, the characteristics that please or irritate us. God goes from the figurative to the actual. Yes, we are like sheep. We are under the care of a Shepherd, we are protected from predators by His presence, we belong to a flock of others just like us, and we have intrinsic value. God says in actuality we are people, not animals – His people whom He loves, cares for and values.
